Here is my progress graph for this year. It shows my results for reading, writing, maths and spelling and how I improved over the year. I think I am doing great at maths.  I  need to work harder at basic facts.

Here is my reading running record level for the end of the year. I am reading at 10.5-11.5 yrs. At the beginning of the year, I was at 11.5-12.5 years. I am only 10 years 4 months old so I am doing great.

Raw Meat Acrostic Poem

Kia ora everyone
This week my class and I were observing raw lamb kidneys and also the heart. We had to write down our observations and also do a sketch of the kidney/heart. After that I write an acrostic poem about a lamb kidney. We were offered the chance to eat cooked kidney and cooked heart. I was too scared to eat the lamb heart or the kidney, so I just watched instead.

Skittles Expirement

On Monday we did an experiment with skittles,we put some in a bowl and poured some water in. Can you guess what happened?

5 Senses 2017 W6

DARK 0’CLOCK

Do you hear that? Its the sound of bright yellow pee dripping from the top of the toilet. My life flashed before my eyes because of All the worn out beds with dead blood thirsty bodies trying to haunt you at night. The floor is like an elephant's dry bonny skin from the 80’s. Its as if the roof was about to be crushed by king kong. The room is like a vampire's top secret lair. The walls are about to burn into crips because of the dark black ashes hanging from the ceiling.  

Cross Country

Yesterday was the annual district cross country. The cross country is where we get together with other schools around the area of Kaikohe. We compete in our age groups and race against each other. I came 15th out of my age group. Here is a picture of me and some of the other competitors. (I'm the one in the bottom right hand corner with my hands on my knees).  

 

Planets

This week we have been doing some work/research on our solar system. We are also planning to do a play about our solar system at the end of term three. People have also been doing some mini paper mace projects on the planets in their proper size (Not actually the normal size, miniature size just small enough so that we can see them).

Up Coming Science Fair

Kia ora everyone,
This term we have been focusing on the up coming science fair. My group is doing a bottle rocket, a bottle rocket is a bottle filled with baking soda and vinegar with a quark on top of the lid. It also has pencils stuck to the the side with duck tape for stabilisers to support the bottle when its being tipped up- side down. The members in my group are ,Rico,Tae & T.A. We have been doing science experiments in preparation for the science fair. We had to reassemble a mixed up report to help us learn how to read and write them. Then we had to use the information to do a floating and sinking experiment using Blutack.

We are learning how to read and write scientific reports. We have been doing experiments and writing about them. This is a reading activity we did. We had to be able to match a title for a report with a wondering question.

We are learning how to understand the structure and language of a report about a scientific experiment.

In this exercise you need to match a title with its question. Use the ‘Fill tool’ to colour code the matching ideas.

Notice that none of these questions begin with a ‘Why….’.  This is because the purpose of a scientific experiment report is to share what you thought you knew, what you thought would happen and your observations about what actually did happen. It’s a bit like you are saying:

I’m wondering this…..because I know this…...so therefore if I do this I think this might happen.

So, at the end of a successful scientific report, you may not be able to say why something happened but you will be on the way to finding out why.

Then, when you do find out why, you will have to learn how to write an Explanation. The purpose of  Explanation writing is to answer Why questions. So, do not be surprised if your teachers decide to teach you Explanation writing later on!!!

Zoofari

This week we drove to Auckland Zoo to go on an epic Zoofari!!! When we got there we were introduced to the old elephant house where we saw a young lady named Tasha. She explained the rules about the Zoofari and told us where we were going to sleep. We all had a FANTASTIC time on the Zoofari and saw a lot of animals that none of us were expecting to see!! 

I recently finished an animal report about a panda. Little did I know that I wasn't going to see a black and white panda.....but I did see a red panda! It was so fast!!!

My Chimera Art

A chimera is something that is at least two creatures combined. It is usually fearsome and cunning beast but It depends on what you are imagining/creating but its up to you,if your chimera is harmless,dangerous or caring(but only to its owner). My chimera personally is part lion (with a sparkling gem on its head),part human and part eagle (with swords on Its wings), It also has five tails. So there you you have it whether its panda monkey or a dragon or even a ant,we all love chimera!

Argument Writing

Stop the Hackers

You have all heard the news. Some company has had to close its doors for the day because their computer system crashed. Why!! Someone hacked it, of course.  I believe that people should stop hacking. Hacking is stealing private data from other people's computers or interfering with computer systems so that you cause serious problems.  I believe that people should stop hacking.

Here are my reasons why:

Firstly:    Hacking is a big, fat threat to all humanity. It’s a ginormous menace and this is why. Hackers can steal people’s accounts that have incredibly private information such as passwords, emails, addresses, bank accounts and much, much more. Now that’s just plain rude!! Hackers get into people's computers and start trying to get private data. They could steal all your money. AND THAT'S NOT GOOD!!!

Secondly, hackers can mess with people’s work and  jobs and some jobs are really important for health and safety reasons.  Hackers can stop  important things happening like medical treatments for cancer and surgery. Some hackers have found their way into computer systems of hospitals and messed up so many records and appointments that the hospitals have had to stop work for the day. AND THAT'S NOT FUNNY.

Finally, hackers can put fake information into places. Imagine trying to get a job and finding out that hackers had changed your records so that it looked like you had no qualifications. Imagine how you would feel. The opposite can happen too. Hackers can change records about criminals to make them look good. Then you might end up hiring a murderer to babysit your kids! NOW THAT'S DEFINITELY NOT GOOD!!!

So, I’m sure you must agree with me. Hacking is horrible, hurtful and harmful to humans.  It robs people of their belongings, it can put people’s health at risk, and you will never know what is true and what is fake. It should be stopped once and for all!!  If you are out there and you are a hacker, please STOP!!   Stop it, right NOW!!!

Fun Friday (Getting Prepared)

Kia ora everyone. Today is Fun Friday,Fun Friday is when the seniors get up and make activities for the Journos and middle school, Our team is the Nerf Guns Distance.in our group the members are Max, Cyrus,Mathew,Rico,Luke,Jay--den,T.A &Terei. 

Onesie Day

Today we had an animal onesie day because we are fundraising for the year 1 & 2 zoo trip. Our group dressed up as zebras. Zebras are members of the horse family. They are mammals.

This week we have been working in groups to help each other write recounts. We had to include hooks, similes and metaphors. We got lots of Gold for glory.

“Hurry up! Get in line!” screeched the teacher as we all piled into the bus. The bus started with a big bang then  we headed off. I glanced out the window to see the beautiful sights. Our chattering made the bus sound  as loud as a cage of giant elephants. Suddenly silence fell over the bus,we were there.

Have you ever slept with the sharks before? That’s what we were planning to do at Kelly Tarlton’s. We stumbled in like a bunch of big fat rhinos. There stood a man with snowy white hair wearing fine-looking clothes with the politest smile. We went silent as he stood in front of us. He was so still he was a statue. “Hello class. My name is Jacob,” he announced with a bold voice. “Come this way,” he said with a sway bellow voice. We walked in silence following him.

Thump! Thump! Our feet banged on the ground like a jumble of giant clashing boulders. The roof above us was a clear tank full of vicious sharks, deep-blue stingrays and cute jellyfish. A light blue shadow flicked by me. “What was that!”I said in shock but no one took any notice of me. I was the invisible man. We carried on down the huge hall.

                                      

After we got into our sleeping bags we tried to fall asleep but the passing sharks kept throwing ghostly shadows that haunted the night. I couldn’t sleep. All I could think about was the shark tank breaking and sharks munching on us. Finally, after a very long long night it was time to go home so we packed up and headed to the bus. “GoodBye! Thank You! “ we yelled and hopped into the bus.

This week we have been focusing on multiplication. in odder to get better we did this mini test for each day of the week(except for Friday). At the end of week we reviewed all our results and put them into graph on our Chromebooks. Here is the final result:
